Kickin’ Again, a dynamic
5 to 8 Piece Band,
enters the Tampa Bay
Market
Tampa, Florida, May
2010: Every few years a
new music sensation
surfaces and Kickin’
Again is that type of
band. Delivering a high
energy retro sound of
the late 60’s and early
to mid-late1970’s, and
other select
contemporary songs of
today, Kickin’ Again is
pure entertainment with
a solid sound that
showcases the vocal,
entertainment and music
talents of 5 to 8
entertainers depending
upon Client song choice
and preference.
What began as a dream
for the Drummer, Mr.
Dane LaBarr, and the
Hammond B3 Organ
Specialist, Mr. Ken Hoye
slowly but surely came
to life after long
discussions and planning
between these two
musicians. Not just any
keyboardist and in fact
the “real deal,” Ken
Hoye is a “connoisseur”
so to speak relative to
the Hammond B3 Organ.
Ken was approaching
retirement from a long
career with a government
company in Tampa and was
looking to rekindle what
years before had been a
true passion. Hailing
from the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame Capitol of
Cleveland, Ohio, Ken was
immediately on board
with Dane LaBarr once he
learned that Dane had
found and purchased a
Hammond B3 Organ. “It
was a sight for sore
eyes when Dane opened
the door to the practice
studio and there sat the
“B3.” Accompanying the
B3 are two Leslie Sound
Cabinets that truly
delivers the precious
but rumbling, growling
sounds of the 60’s and
early 70’s. Groups like
the Rascals, Isaac
Hayes, Billy Preston,
Vanilla Fudge, and
Booker “T” and the MG’s
all played the B3, Ken
Hoye stated. Dane had
done his homework and
had accomplished his
preliminary goal of
acquiring the B3 to
entice Ken to come
onboard. Shortly
thereafter he and Ken
began discussing
starting the Band, and
stating the goal and
vision for the sound and
framework.
Once these two musicians
came together, and with
the acquisition of the
Hammond B3 Organ, the
foundation for Kickin’
Again was laid and in
place and allowed them
to move forward and
recruit the rest of the
Band. In late 2008,
after numerous
auditions, Dane and Ken
would meet Garry B.
Coston, a dynamic,
powerful and emotional
soul, R&B, and classic
rock vocalist and
songwriter from
Bradenton, Florida.
Garry’s powerful,
emotional vocals and
Front/Lead persona would
be just what they needed
out front for Kickin’
Again. In 2009 Mark
Hall, a superb Bass
Guitarist would join the
group, take a respite
and rejoin in 2010, and
also in 2010 Tim Jones,
a superb guitarist, and
Shantel Shan Norman, a
truly awesome power
packed Vocalist,
complementing Garry’s
powerful lead, from
Bradenton, Florida would
also join the Kickin’
Again team. Also In
2010, Kickin’ Again
would add Larry
Cargolesti a super tenor
and alto sax player, and
Mike Rock, a super
trumpet player to
complete the lineup.
These excellent
musicians would complete
the final lineup and
with this great team,
Kickin’ Again was ready
to hit the road.
Together, all of these
musicians provide vocal
and back-up vocal
harmonies in support of
a wide range of genres
like no other group in
the Tampa Bay area.
Again, the Hammond B3
Organ is the backbone
and sound staple of
Kickin’ Again and is in
fact the central focus
of the group’s sound
beyond the vocals and
the back-up vocal
harmonies and the
tightness of the driving
rhythm section. Together
as a Band, this group of
talented musicians
delivers soul to fit
your mold, rock and roll
to soothe the soul, R&B
to set you free and of
course a “trunk full of
funk!”
